The Staff

The First Presbyterian Children's Care Center is unique in child care and preschool in that the majority of our staff have been at the center for the last 8 years.  Our staff is experienced and committed.  We have celebrated 5, 10, and even 20-year anniversaries with our teachers!  As career child educators, our teachers routinely attend continuing Early Childhood Development classes.  All staff are trained in CPR and First Aid.  The teachers design and implement the curriculum in their individual classrooms.

The Curriculum

Our curriculum provides for all areas of child development:  physical, emotional, social and cognitive, in an integrated approach.  Appropriate curriculum planning is based on our teacher's observations and assessments of each child's special interest and development progress.  The daily schedules in all the classrooms include free choice, fine and gross motor skill activities, creative art projects, sensory play, music and movement, literacy, science, math,  outdoor play, discovery, and much more.

History

Since its inception as a local mission of the First Presbyterian Church in 1979, the Preschool Center has been a licensed, self-supporting, non-profit corporation.  The Board approved the expansion of the Center into a full-time, year-round educational child care center in 1990.

 Philosophy

It is the desire of the Center Staff and Governing Board to provide developmentally appropriate experiences, which will help youngsters to develop intellectually, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually, with a group of children their own age.  The philosophy of the First Presbyterian Children's Care Center is to understand and support each child as an individual.  We also believe that children grow and develop to their fullest potential if given the opportunity to explore, create and problem solve, with materials which are appropriate to their developmental age.  Our Center will offer each child a warm, safe and nurturing environment and provide activities to promote cooperation, creativity,  independence, and a sense of self-esteem.  We will also encourage a sense of caring for community and an awareness of the world around them.
